60th anniversary

Scholarship Foundation Celebrates 60 years of Giving

The Hayward Community Schools Educational Foundation was established in 1959, by a group of community members who wanted to honor a young man, Ernest Harnden, who died accidentally.  Ernest’s parents were the first people to donate to the foundation. Ernest’s sisters, Rosalie Bender and Jackie Corbine are pictured above.  Since 1959, over 1200 scholarships have been awarded to Hayward High School graduates attending post secondary education programs which include trade schools, technical colleges and four year colleges and universities. As of December 31, 2018, $812,865.00 has been paid out to our Hayward graduates.  Another $61,420 was awarded to our students at the annual meeting in May of 2019.

The Hayward Community Schools Educational Foundation (HCSEF) is primarily funded from our local community members leaving bequests, estates, and individual donations. The purpose of the HCSEF is to assist students in higher education by providing scholarships.  This purpose was established in 1959 when the foundation board decided to honor Ernest Harnden and since then our community has come together to support this philanthropic cause.  Most recently the foundation has received donations from the Turk’s Inn Charitable Trust, thanks to Marge Gogian. Donations can be made by contacting the Hayward High School guidance department at keckes@hayward.k12.wi.us, bmorgan@hayward.k12.wi.us, 715-638-9502 or contact the foundation treasurer Randy Pachal, at randypachal@gmail.com, 715-699-2276.
